Imperfecto Gurgaon Review
Imperfecto Gurgaon (Spanish for Imperfect), not quite, I’mPerfecto (mine for I am perfect), well not quite as well. It is, though, an interesting take on creating an eatery that well, reminded me of Chor Bizzare @ Hotel Broadway – Nothing looks the same except for the platters. For who don’t know, there was a Chor Bizzare in Gurgaon as well but it shut its doors a few years back. Must have been crushed under heavy mall rentals, though I always thought they were doing well. Oh! As I drift off at times, this review is about “Imperfecto”. This confuses me after my first visit today – a Café, Bar, or Restaurant, I don’t really understand what it is really. So from half bodies hanging from the roof to mirrors carved out from old wooden tennis rackets to halved out scooters, water bodies, loud green & other colours and dim lighting that add to the quirkiness, Imperfecto Gurgaon has it all.
The menu at Imperfecto Gurgaon is a mix too … It has roasts, grills, burger, main courses, sandwiches, pizzas, desserts with a very Mediterranean, Spanish, Italian (Phew!!) touch. Chef Nuria Rodríguez has undoubtedly created a menu with a special appeal. The location is awesome for winters, though I would have liked to have a balance in indoor and outdoor seating. There was a bit of a wait for a seat indoors when three of us landed there during lunch yesterday and the mist fans outdoors were not effective at all. But well, no one is perfect and this is Imperfecto.
They let you “be” which is good but when it translates to no water on the table unless asked for is a bit much. Come on guys! Its been really hot outside and this bit of sensitivity is needed towards your patrons who have just walked in. The trio that we were ordered for Chicken Roasted in Wood Oven (Rs.400); Chicken Shawarma (Rs.375) & Panache of Vegetables with Holland Sauce (Rs.375). While the Roasted chicken was awesome I cannot say the same about the other two dishes. They looked as if they were not portioned appropriately and when served in a Tagine – they looked rather short. I have to add here that the veggies tasted nice, however, the Chicken Shawarma looked dry hence a tad sad.
The service that appeared to be “you take all the time” started to bother, as we were getting hungrier by the minute. The food at Imperfecto Gurgaon took almost 25 minutes to arrive (the drinks were served within 10 minutes) and that too in piecemeal. The stewards had to be spoken with multiple times to explain a need. It took me three times to get water refreshed on the table and three people to guide me to the men’s room. These are not big issues though definitely need an ironing out.
So in my humble opinion, there are several tweaks required in terms of food presentation, service and Chef Nuria please do something about those wooden chairs in Imperfecto Gurgaon – they are atrociously uncomfortable 🙂
Having said all this, its worth another visit to check out what more surprises the menu can spring up.
