Shri Krishna Janmashtami

The eighth day of bhadra krishnapaksh is marked as the grand festival the birth of lord Shri Krishna known as ‘Janmashtami’ the most sacred of the days. The cities of Vrindavan, Gokul, Mathura, Nandgaon are decorated with lights, colors, lamps aplomb for thrill and fun like a bride adorns a bridal gown. Every temple is rushed by hundreds of devotees who fast the whole day and wait till bell strikes twelve when Lord Shri Krishna in the form of Ladoo Gopal is placed in the jhoola covered with flowers. As the clock strikes twelve devotees celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna.

Janmashtami is day full of colors and penance dedicated to Shri Krishna when exclusive raslilas are performed. At some places you can listen to Shrimad Bhagwat and religious bhajans or simply see people dancing in temple in full vigor to be the part of this celebration. This is the time when whole towns get immersed in the Leelas of Lord Shri Krishna. At night long processions are taken out to celebrate Lord’s birth. The parade often has has lots of chariot with kids impersonating as Shri Radha Krishna, ladies are dressed as Gopis and perform dance forms of garba & dandiya ras in front of idols of many Hindu gods and goddesses. this is the time when it seems as one is reliving the true moments while at the time of real birth of Lord Shri Krishna. One can feel the bhakti raining on the earth with love and charming touch of devotion.

This festival was started in 1998 from ISCKON Gurgaon Centre and attracts more than one lakh people every year from all walks of life.

The event is main attraction of Gurgaon in these years. But the BIG question is? Will it rain tomorrow? Nandlal ki jai ho 🙂
