A very unpleasant incident had broken out on the sets of Luv Ranjan’s next, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor at Mumbai’s Royal Palms in Goregaon on March 15. Workers who had earlier worked on a song for this film shot in October 2021 at Mumbai’s Charkop area in Kandivali, had entered the set and said that 350 people from their fraternity had not been paid to the tune of Rs 1 crore, 22 lakh. ETimes had brought you that news FIRST and EXCLUSIVE. The police was summoned, who then whisked the agitated workers to Aarey Police Station and later the unions rushed to the station to get them released. The shooting however continued after the workers were taken away in the police van.
According to the breaking story, Luv Films had sent a letter to FWICE and other unions prior to the agitation, in response to the complaint made by Film Studio setting & Allied Mazdoor Union’s General Secretary Ganeshwarlal Shrivastav, that they are not responsible for any non-payments as they had given the hired Production Designer, Dipankar Das Gupta, all the necessary payments in this regard. Dipankar Das Dasgupta had told ETimes, “If I was at fault, would I have been still shooting with Luv? In fact, as we speak, I am on the same Ranbir-Shraddha set.” According to Dipankar, Jaishankar and Gautam of Hyperlink were responsible for the mess. Dipankar had said that he had outsourced the project to a company called Hyperlink, who had further outsourced it to a certain Prashant Vichare.
The latest on this film is that a new set was being done up in Chitrakoot and this morning, the batch of workers at work put down their auzaar (tools). When contacted, FWICE General Secretary Ashok Dubey confirmed and said, “Yes, this happened today on the set of Luv Ranjan’s upcoming film. This is a move of unity with the workers, who have still not been paid. First the batch of workers who toiled at Kandivli were not paid. Later, they shot at The Royal Palms where they called a second batch of workers, who also have not been fully paid – an amount to the tune of Rs 12.5 lakh is outstanding. Post that, they have been shooting at a set in Chitrakoot, Andheri. There, the shooting is going on in one set. They were making another set in the adjoining space, wherein the workers stopped working today. Here also, a new set of workers has been used.”
Dubey further said that FWICE spoke to Luv Films yesterday but they washed their hands off the matter. “Unhone apne haath upar kar diye (They’ve thrown up their hands in the matter),” Dubey remarked.
Luv Ranjan remained unavailable for comment.
Latest update coming in after this story was published: The workers went back to work an hour ago after Luv Films promised to resolve the issue by filing a police complaint against the ones whom they had outsourced the production design duties to.
