Cops uproot cannabis plants in parts of Kurukshetra

KURUKSHETRA: Under the initiative “Freedom from Drugs” to tackle the menace of drug abuse, the Kurukshetra police officials uprooted the wild cannabis plants in different localities of the city on Sunday.
Following the instructions from Kurukshetra superintendent of police (SP) Anshu Singla, the teams of CIA-I, CIA-II, anti-narcotics cell, Krishna Gate SHO, in-charge of Subhash Mandi police post led by DSP headquarters Subhash Chander, combed the area of Shorgir Basti, Indira Colony in Thanesar City. The police conducted house to house checking in suspicious areas and checked properties from water tanks, to beds, and kitchens in the houses of residents.
Kurukshetra police spokesman Naresh Kumar said the Shorgir Basti, Indira Colony in Thanesar city are notorious for drug smuggling and even the women of this locality smuggle the drugs.
“The police have recovered large quantities of narcotics from men and women of Shorgir Basti and a search operation was conducted on Sunday,” said Naresh.
He added that during the search operation, the police have recovered 1.20 kg ganga (dried cannabis) from an accused woman of Shorgir Basti besides 36 illicit bottles of beer, IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) and country liquor.
He said cases are being registered against accused people under relevant Sections of the NDPS Act.
