Gurgaon: Residents of Sector 46 have long complained of deteriorating sanitation conditions in the area and have attributed the situation to a poor waste management system. Their repeated appeals to the civic body to address the issue and numerous complaints filed on the CM Window have also not been paid heed to.
Rajkumar Yadav, RWA president of the sector, said garbage collection from households was not regular.”Less than half of the 37 staff members allotted to our sector show up for duty and even they are not equipped to collect the garbage. The entire sector is turning into a slum due to mismanagement, and there are no signs of improvement despite repeated complaints,” he said.
He also said dust pollution in the area was increasing. “Road cleaning is rarely done, and layers of dust have accumulated along the roadside, contributing to rising dust pollution.”
In some areas, vacant plots have turned into garbage dumps, and stray cattle can often be seen rummaging through the waste for food, residents said.
“The place has become a dumpyard. Uncollected waste often ends up on the streets and the rotten garbage lying around poses a serious health risk to us,” said Richa Tiwari, joint secretary of the RWA.
Meanwhile, Jitender Kumar, the sanitary inspector of MCG, said that garbage collection was now streamlined. “There were problems earlier, but the collection is now regular and adequate manpower has been deployed. I have received no recent complaints regarding this. However, I will visit the area on Monday, and if there are any shortcomings, I will get them resolved,” he said.
