GURUGRAM: The city on Monday recorded higher than normal temperatures due to warmer easterly winds and a cloud cover that blocks nighttime cooling, but this could change from Friday, meteorologists have forecast.
Gurugram’s minimum temperature was 18.1 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal, and the maximum was 33.4 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal.
From Friday, the temperatures are likely to dip 1-2 degrees as the winds will change to northwesterlies. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), residents in parts of the city may wake up to light rains and drizzle on Tuesday and Wednesday. Gurugram and neighbouring NCR will witness the impact of a western disturbance, a weather system that originates in the Mediterranean and triggers rains in India, till November 9, IMD has said.
It also projected partly cloudy skies with shallow fog in the morning hours. The minimum temperature is expected to hover around 19 degrees Celsius and and the maximum, 32 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, Delhi recorded the warmest November day on Monday since 2008 as the maximum temperature rose to 33 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal, at Safdarjung, the city’s base station. The daytime temperature remained high mostly due to easterly winds, which bring warmer air, and clear sky, said experts.
According to IMD, the maximum temperature was 33 degrees Celsius on November 2 too. The last time Delhi recorded a higher maximum temperature in the month was on November 4, 2008, at 33.5 degrees Celsius.
The all-time record of the highest maximum temperature in November is 36.1 degrees Celsius on November 3, 2001.
R K Jenamani, senior scientist at IMD, said, “Easterly winds, clear skies and sunlight kept the day temperature above normal.”
