Haryana: 50% in Nuh have got first Covid vaccine dose now

GURUGRAM: Nuh, which has been lagging so far in Covid vaccination, on Thursday crossed the halfway mark of first doses for its eligible population of 10 lakh, 10% of which is now fully vaccinated.
On November 10, Nuh’s first dose coverage stood at 36%. The dismal numbers and the slow pace were affecting Haryana’s overall vaccination drive, following which a task force was formed on November 11 to provide support in areas with low coverage.
In the two weeks since, there has been a significant improvement. Nuh has now given a little over 5 lakh first doses and more than one lakh second doses.
Asked how the district planned to achieve 100% vaccination, Nuh chief medical official Surender Kumar Yadav said, “We aim to carry out one lakh vaccinations every week and are getting help in this regard from the administration. Every village has been adopted by officers, who visit its remotest corners. We have been appealing to locals through loudspeakers at mosques to get themselves vaccinated. We have also offered a discount of Re 1 on every litre of petrol and diesel for fully vaccinated people in the district.”
Haryana, meanwhile, is inching towards the 90% mark for first doses. The state, which has an eligible population of a little over 2 crore, has so far given 1.8 crore first doses and 96 lakh second doses, thus achieving 89% and 47% coverage in the categories. It aims to achieve 100% first dose coverage by December 31.
Four districts have already reached that milestone — Gurgaon (125%), Faridabad (108%), Panchkula (105%) and Panchkula (104%). At the other end of the spectrum stand Nuh (50%), Palwal and Jind (both 73%) with low first dose coverage.
As far as second doses are concerned, the top five districts are Gurgaon (86%), Ambala (76%), Charkhi Dadri (73%), Panchkula (71%) and Faridabad (60%).
“We have already achieved our target of 85% full vaccination. We are now eyeing completing it for the entire eligible population. Vaccination for children will roll out sooner or later and we would like to focus on that then,” Gurgaon chief medical officer Virender Yadav said.
A total of 9,305 people in the 18-44 age group and 1,383 people in the 45-plus category got inoculated on Thursday. One healthcare worker and 10 frontline workers also got jabs. In all, 16,699 doses were administered. On Friday, 52 government session sites will be set up for Covid vaccination in Gurgaon. Covishield will be given at 46 sites, Covaxin at five and Sputnik V at one. Moreover, health teams will visit 147 areas to carry out door-to-door vaccination.
Five new cases in city
Meanwhile, five people tested positive for Covid-19 in the city on Thursday, taking the caseload to 1,81,657, of which 67 are active. As many as 13 people also recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,80,660. A total of 63 patients are in home isolation.
