Gurgaon: Residents of sectors 102 and 102A have raised an alarm over a high-tension (HT) pole that stands in the middle of the road near Adani Oyster. The electricity pole poses a risk of accidents, but GMDA is yet to relocate it, they said.
In Feb, GMDA started a revamp project to reconstruct a 1.3km stretch of road connecting to the Dwarka Expressway at the cost of Rs 11.8 crore. The project includes resurfacing the road, constructing surface drains, adding slip roads, streetlights and road safety measures. However, the unresolved issue of relocating the HT pole has left residents worried.
Although the project’s completion is set for Nov, residents are urging GMDA to act promptly, warning that delays in relocating the pole could lead to safety hazards.
“Having such a high-tension pole in a densely populated area, especially so close to a school, is a disaster waiting to happen. We’ve already seen near-miss accidents because the pole is directly in the path of traffic. With winter approaching, the risks will only escalate. GMDA must prioritise this issue to ensure the new road not only improves connectivity but also ensures the safety of all commuters,” said Vikas Keer, general secretary of Imperial Gardens RWA.
Residents are also calling for the construction of a service lane along the revamped road to offer a safer and more convenient route to reduce traffic congestion.
Meanwhile, a GMDA official told TOI, “Work on the construction of drains and the central verge has been completed, and road reconstruction has now begun. We are on track to complete the project within the stipulated timeline. Additionally, the relocation of the HT pole has been taken up by the concerned department.”
