MCG dumping dust in area, alleged Sec 9 residents

Gurgaon: Residents of Sector 9 are facing a tough time due to rising dust pollution in the area. They have blamed the civic authorities for failing to implement an effective policy for the disposal of dust collected by mechanised sweeping vehicles.
Over the past week, several vehicles have been dumping collected dust in the vacant plot adjacent to the Sector 9 park during the wee hours. This, residents said, has been causing breathing difficulties for residents. They claimed to have lodged several complaints but in vain.
Prashant Chauhan, the RWA president, said: “It is an irony. MCG claims to be keeping the roads dust-free and making our sector a dust bowl. We have spotted many vehicles between 3 am to 5 am dumping collected dust in the vacant plot. We have made several complaints to the officials but nothing has been done to stop this illegal dumping.”
According to the residents, these vehicles were dumping dust a few months ago, following which the police was called to stop the disposal. KR Sharma, a resident, said: “I fail to understand the logic behind collecting the dust from one part of the city and dumping it in another residential area. When the wind blows, the particulate matter gets suspended in the air and causes breathing difficulties, especially in senior citizens.”
RS Yadav, another resident, said: “Because of such illegal disposal by MCG, others have also started dumping solid and C&D waste in the vacant plot. The roads are broken at several locations, generating dust. The authorities have completely turned a blind eye to the situation and we continue to suffer. ”
When contacted, a senior official of the MCG agreed that they are dumping dust in the vacant plots. He said that the dust is then levelled using machines or later be utilised in the recarpeting of roads. “However, I will get it checked and it will be cleared soon,” said Rishi Malik, a senior sanitary inspector (MCG).
