Rain & winds likely today too, mercury set to come down by 2-4°C in 48 hours


Gurgaon: Some parts of the city experienced light rainfall on Saturday. The day started off clear and sunny. Around 4 pm, the city witnessed light drizzle along with thunderstorm and lightning. The city also witnessed gusty winds with speeds of up to 40kmph.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the city received 1.5 mm rainfall by 5.30pm.
Despite the rain, the daytime temperature slightly rose from Friday’s 37.5 degrees to to 37.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday, two notches above normal.
The minimum temperature was 23.2 degrees Celsius — the season’s highest so far and 4 degrees above normal. It was was 20.8 degrees Celsius on Friday.
IMD attributed the change in weather to an active western disturbance in northwest India. “The western disturbance brought light rain to some areas on Saturday. Similar conditions are expected to continue till April 15. Over the next 48 hours, a drop in the maximum temperature by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius is expected, with no significant change after that,” an IMD official said.
Sunday is likely to witness cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. The minimum temperature is predicted to be around 22 degrees Celsius, and the maximum around 32 degrees Celsius.
The city’s air quality remained in the ‘poor’ category on Saturday, with an air quality index (AQI) reading of 266. The AQI was 268 on Friday.
Meanwhile, Delhi also received a much-needed respite from the hot and dry weather with strong winds and rain bringing down the temperature on Saturday evening. The weather department expects the rain and thunder activity to continue on Sunday too.
The changed weather led to the diversion of over 22 Delhi-bound flights. IMD has issued an orange alert for rain and thundershowers on Sunday, saying that the maximum temperature will drop 4 to 5 degrees Celsius, while the wind speed on Sunday may reach 45kmph.
The weather stations in Delhi had recorded the day’s maximum temperature at 39.3 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal. The minimum temperature was 23 degrees.
According to the weather department, the maximum temperature on Sunday may drop 4-5 degrees Celsius and hover around 33 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, due to the strong winds, the city’s air quality improved to ‘moderate’ from ‘poor’. The air quality index, on a scale of 0 to 500, was 196 against 231 on Friday. The pollution monitoring agencies expect the AQI to remain in the moderate category.
