Rs 12cr subsidy to farmers for solar pumps

Gurgaon: The district administration has provided subsidies worth Rs 12 crore to 415 farmers over the past two years to discourage diesel gen-sets and provide sustainable irrigation sources, said additional deputy commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena on Sunday. A 75% subsidy is on offer for installing solar pumps, the official added.
Meena said, “Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha and Utthan Mahabhiyan (Kusum) Yojana started by the new and renewable energy department, subsidies worth Rs 12 crore has been provided to 415 farmers who have applied since 2019.” Meena added that the scheme would ensure an uninterrupted power supply at a cheap cost, besides reducing the carbon footprint in the farm sector.
Under the scheme, farmers can get solar pumps as per their requirements in the categories of 3, 5, 7.5 and 10 horsepower, available in the range of Rs 43,000 and Rs 1.15 lakh.
The government will launch the next phase of the scheme within the coming few weeks.
Rameshwar Singh, district project officer, renewable energy, said, “The benefit of the scheme is being given on a first-come-first-serve basis. The application can be filed online through the Saral portal. It is also necessary for the farmers to have family identity cards. They have to select government empanelled agencies and the due amount will be deposited with the application form online or through challan.”
