Sewage overflow: Residents block road, protest against corporation

Gurgaon: Residents of ward 22 staged a protest on Monday on Gurgaon-Pataudi road against the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) for their alleged failure in tackling the problem of overflowing sewage for the past two months. The protesters blocked the road in the morning leading to disruption in traffic movement for around an hour.
The residents said that they have been facing a harrowing time due to the accumulation of sewer water on the streets, which not only is an eyesore but emanates foul smell and is a health hazard. Dev Rawat, a resident of Heera Nagar, said, “Plinth level of the houses in the locality are low, hence, overflowing sewer water is entering the houses. We were left with no option but to take the matter to the streets.” The residents complained that water supply in the area is also getting contaminated.
Meanwhile, Pradeep Ahlawat, joint commissioner-I along with the officials of MCG carried out the inspection of the area recently. “I have visited the areas and found that the concerns raised by the residents are genuine. I have called a joint meeting on Wednesday to review all the pending work in the ward and will try to resolve the problem as soon as possible,” he said.
