Gurgaon: Residents of the new sectors along the Dwarka Expressway have demanded immediate piped natural gas (PNG) supply in their areas. Around 2 lakh families currently stay in the new sectors and an additional 3 lakh are in the process of shifting to their new homes soon.
On Tuesday, a group of residents met the deputy commissioner of Gurgaon and sought his intervention in ensuring PNG connection to the residential societies along the expressway. Earlier, Union minister and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjeet Singh too had urged the Union and state governments to ensure the early completion of laying the PNG pipeline network in the new sectors.
Residents said their earlier request to Haryana City Gas Distribution Ltd (HCG) did not yield any result. “Historically, HCG has been extremely slow in the expansion of PNG coverage due to many reasons. Subsequently, we approached Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) for ensuring PNG supplies to the new sectors,” Dinesh Garg, resident of Gurgaon One society in Sector 84, told TOI.
“IGL was very willing, but expressed their inability since they were not authorised to expand their network by the Haryana government. That was a strange learning for us, as we believe oil and gas is a central subject, also it’s a public sector undertaking especially created for the rapid expansion of PNG network in Delhi-NCR,” said Dharam Veer Singh, president of Mapsko Casabella RWA.
Residents said a majority of the societies had already spent significant money on PNG infra in their societies. “IGL is also willing to provide supplies within six months. However, in the absence of permission from the state government, they are helpless,” said Gaurav Prakash, a resident of Brisk Lumbini housing society in Sector 109.
Sunil Sareen, a resident of Imperial Garden in Sector 102, said, “We are hopeful that the Gurgaon DC will step in to ensure that we get PNG supplies soon.” When contacted, DC Nishant Yadav said that he would take up the issue with the department concerned.
On April 27, the Gurgaon MP wrote to the Union minister for petroleum and natural gas, highlighting the residents’ desire for PNG supplies in the new sectors through IGL.
