Gurgaon: Strong southeasterly winds and cloud cover ensured that the city records a further decrease in maximum temperature on Friday. Mercury dropped to 32 degrees Celsius from 33.7 degrees Celsius on Thursday. This was three notches below the seasonal average. However, the minimum temperature rose slightly to 26.4 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal for this time of year.
The relative humidity fluctuated between 80% and 59% throughout the day, making the strong winds, blowing at 24 kmph, a welcome relief from the prevailing humid conditions.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of very light rain at isolated locations in Haryana on Saturday. However, the overall weather is expected to remain dry in the coming days.
“Monsoon activity is in its last leg in the northwest region, and some passing showers may be experienced at isolated places in the state over the next 24 hours. Although the cloud cover and strong winds have prevented rise in temperature, it is likely to increase with clear skies in the coming days,” an IMD official said.
Monsoon this year in Haryana was ‘normal’ with the state receiving 407.1mm rainfall as against the usual of 429.3mm. The IMD considers monsoon to be in the ‘normal’ range when departure in the rainfall received is 19% from the usual.
For Saturday, the forecast indicates mostly cloudy conditions. Minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to be around 26 and 31 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Meanwhile, the city’s air quality index (AQI) registered a reading of 77 on Friday, from the previous day’s 91, and improved to the ‘satisfactory’ range.
