By Times of India – Gurugram: 12 illegal houses sealed in Saraswati Kunj, four razed GURUGRAM: The enforcement team of the department of town and country planning (DTCP) sealed 12 under-construction houses and demolished four houses built illegally in Saraswati Kunj cooperative housing society on Monday evening amidst resistance by locals. This was the first such exercise in the society. The buildings had been constructed without approval of building plans by the department. Several complaints of unauthorised construction have been received from the area. The team, in presence of 60 policemen, also sealed several PG accommodations and demolished many illegal structures, including boundary walls. As soon as the DTCP team reached the area on Monday afternoon, around 100 locals gathered on the site and tried to disrupt the drive by blocking the way of the earthmovers, but the drive was conducted. Set up in 1983, the society had been under a legal tussle since 2004 after 9,000 applicants were enrolled by the cooperative group for plots, whereas the society could accommodate only 4,000 houses. Till now, only 1,500 have been allotted plots. In 2016, the state government had formed a commission headed by retired IAS officer SP Sharma to identify the original owners and suggest a way out of the stalemate. The matter is presently under Punjab and Haryana high court. Due to the legal issues, the DTCP is not approving any building plans or giving clearance to construction in the society. The department had issued notices to several property owners a week back. District town planner RS Batth told TOI the team will conduct a survey of remaining houses in the colony, and take action against the violators after serving them notices. The RWA has said that it will ensure no unauthorised construction is carried out, he added.
